Fifty years ago a brief moment between Norm Provan and Arthur Summons was immortalised by photographer John O’Grady and in 2013 this iconic moment was paid the highest honour with the renaming of the NRL Telstra Premiership Trophy to the Provan Summons Trophy. The moment has come to arguably personify the spirit ingrained in Australian rugby league. Fifty years on in the 72nd minute of the 2013 Grand Final Michael Jennings scored what was described as a ‘superhuman’ try effectively sealing premiership glory for the Sydney Roosters for the thirteenth time. A remarkable display of athleticism and a refusal to give up in search of triumph was captured on in a series of amazing stills. While this moment may not yet be immortalised in bronze it will no doubt enter the rarefied atmosphere of iconic NRL moments in years to come.
